About the Service
Our names are Graham and
Emma Maxwell, a husband and wife research team living near Annan, in southern
Scotland. Graham Maxwell Ancestry
has been established for over ten years, and we have regular access to all the
main genealogical record sources in Scotland, as well as a variety of English
sources. We do specialise in research in the southern Scottish counties, but
welcome requests for research for all over Scotland.
Together with my wife Emma we have transcribed and indexed the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census for a number of counties in the Scottish Borders (and also much of Dumfriesshire for 1851). We have endeavoured to make the transcriptions as accurate as possible, by carefully comparing entries for the same families in different census years to highlight errors and anomalies. Careful note is made of women who change between the married and maiden names, and illegitimate children who change between their father’s and mother’s surnames. The database we have built up as we have transcribed the census for these areas is a unique and invaluable resource for family history research in the area, which we can have at our disposal during any family history search in the Scottish Borders and Dumfriesshire areas. We can also provide our own microfilm printouts of the original census entries for the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census for most of the Scottish Borders area, plus 1851 for Dumfriesshire. We are able to cater for whatever your requirements are regarding Scottish research, from simple birth, marriage or death certificate transcriptions or photocopies, to a detailed family tree.
As each family is
different my recommendation is that you send us as much as you can about what
you know, and we will be happy to give you advice on how to proceed with your
research and a free, no-obligation estimate of what we would charge to meet
your research requirements. Please note that some specific information
regarding a birth marriage or death in Scotland, usually a full name and as
